fall is for friendship

Fall is here! It always feels like that video of the wife at the start of the movie. Romanticize everything!

I was at a christening lunch with my sisters this weekend, and we took a stroll after lunch. Sometimes, fall makes me believe I’m a witch who can travel in time, because as we were walking, I vividly saw three young girls, three curice, skipping around, and in an instant, we grew up again.

People are always surprised we have been friends for twenty years (being only 26, all three of us). But could it be any other way? After everything we’ve been through together?

And don’t you have those conversations with your friends about the possibility of you parting ways?

But the possibility of that happening in a nasty manner, with a huge fallout, is impossible because our core values align. We uplift each other. We’ve done the work of figuring out our individuality in the group. We’ve gone past the thorny road of glazing over certain issues and avoiding ugly conversations. And I mean, we did have twenty years to perfect that.

Even from me, my traumatized, avoidant, neurodivergent self that embodies all that in my insecurities, my sense of loneliness, and internalized, heightened sense of injustice somehow is given grace to exist within that group, where I don’t have to mask or pretend, and I’m given patience (beyond deserved even) to reflect and catch my breath.

It’s like a fairy godmother whips out her magical wand and sprinkles everything with calm freedom to exist.

That’s what a twenty-year-old friendship will do to you.

_The difference between a good day and a bad day is your attitude. Don’t make the challenges of life become your identity. Challenges in life are inevitable, and they are for your promotion but being defeated is optional and a choice. When you talk about your challenges to everyone, you perpetuate the memory of them. It positions you as a victim and delays any efforts of quick recovery. Talk magnifies things._

_The wise never discuss their challenges with someone incapable of solving them. Your chosen confidant should be competent and discreet. Nobody associates with losers and victims. When Job lost everything, everyone avoided him. It was only when God doubled his blessings that others returned to participate in his life by giving him gifts. Harness your mouth._
