healthiest eating habits

I come down on a crisp morning, and the smell of fresh, warm coffee lures me to the kitchen.

I am my mother’s daughter, who is her grandpa’s daughter. A coffee and a biscuit unlock the day.

I have a front yard with a jujube tree and a clothesline. I pocket some of the brown fruits the size of an olive or a date. It’s a little snack for later.

A black plastic basket filled with ripe red and yellow dates, resting on a paved surface.

I say good day to the gilded hills and my basil.

My mom suggests I dry some of the parsley, but nothing tops the freshness of the leaves as I pick them from my garden and plop them in my soup.

My grandma used to say: “I don’t like people who don’t know how to enjoy food.” She also peeled the apples and cut them into slices to force-feed them to us every time we came to visit. The bowl needed to be empty.

I love apples. I never peel or cut them. Grandma thought it was important that she did it. She must take care of her children.

My healthiest eating habit is being able to prepare a warm meal or a little something sweet, sit down with my loved ones, and share it with them.

A shared meal holds something sacred. Food is alchemy. A fruit on the branch, a plant in the soil, hard work. In a simple process of subtle transmutation, it turns into love and safety, a true sanctuary.

I, too, want to sit on a hill and munch on some cheese and bread, as is fitting.

Kindness is what brings us together. If you can, please consider donating here to help in Gaza.

    1. Thank you! I grew up having everything I needed in my garden, so my relationship with food always reflects that – first in appreciating the hard work it takes to grow the goods, and also knowing that the food I eat is healthy, traditional, and following the seasons, so it all works in a rhythm. Coffee and biscuits, on the other hand, are the inherent love for sweets that great-grandpa couldn’t start his day without 😅

    1. Grandma rules! 😄 Food is a privilege not everyone can afford, and is often denied (hence the link I shared). It’s something to keep in mind always.
Did it explain better what it is? Glad you enjoyed the photos. Jujube have the texture of apples, but also, I didn’t tell you this, but the branches have huge thorns, like roses, and I scratch myself so often! 😅

      1. The thorns are huge! My scratches are still healing 😅 But we still manage fine. And it is worth it! It’s the best fall snack 😄 You mean like around my house? 🤭

      2. Uuu, I’ll make a post about it one of these days. I just want to be mindful of the landscape as there are other private properties around – I live in the center of the village, let’s say – so I want to showcase the beauty, but be mindful of the privacy, as well. But I will post what I can 😁

      3. As we discussed, it’s always good to respect other people’s preference and privacy. But don’t worry, I’ll manage some photos! 😁

  1. Loved reading this. 🤍 I could almost smell the coffee and feel the warmth of those little family memories. And yes, food really does become something special when it’s cooked and shared with people we love. 🦋✨

  2. Sharing meals with those you love is a whole different experience. I love cooking for my parents and enjoying the food together. And your grandmother is so right, I don’t trust people that don’t know how to enjoy food too lol.

  3. Your dream is not just about you. If you give up, many people connected to you will never rise. If you stay focused, many will find courage because you did. That’s why you cannot afford to be distracted.

Be selective with who has access to your ears. Not everyone deserves to hear your vision some people only came to measure it so they can mock it. Feed your spirit daily. Stay in the Word, stay in prayer, stay around people who speak life, not death.

When God gives you a dream, He also gives you the grace to carry it. But grace needs guarding. Guard your heart, guard your focus, guard your circle. The same way you wouldn’t leave gold outside for anyone to pick, don’t leave your destiny exposed to everyone.

Remember this: It’s not pride to separate yourself, it’s preservation. Jesus Himself had twelve, but He had three closer, and He had one He leaned on. Even God in flesh understood levels.

So today, choose again. Choose your destiny over distraction. Choose purpose over popularity. Choose growth over gossip. The generation waiting for you cannot wait forever rise and protect what God placed in your hands.
