Vienna Food Tour

My sister and I were in Vienna last fall, so here’s a little food tour.

Figlmüller

This Viennese restaurant is famous for schnitzels bigger than your head. The interior is so cute and romantic, and the service is amazing. I recommend making a reservation because it is, after all, a renowned restaurant. It has a few locations across Vienna. We were at Figlmüller at Wollzeile.

KOON (Korean Corndogs)

This stop near the State Opera was a hidden gem (it’s in a side street, but it’s not too difficult to find). There are a few smaller tables inside and a few more outside, or you can get takeout. We did just that, and then dragged ourselves to our hotel because we were exhausted. We don’t have better pictures, but these corndogs were delicious!

Bome Café

We walked quite a bit to find this place, but it was worth it! The interior design is the first thing that catches the eye. It’s so cool and calm. And then the coffee! In my opinion, the best place around.

Manner

Not necessarily a place where you can eat, but it’s a famous Viennese sweets store where you can get so many delicious things, either to try or as a sweet souvenir.

AIDA-Café-Konditorei

I believe they have more locations, but we kept going back to the one next to St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Here, you can have breakfast or stop by for a sweet break. We tried Kaiserschmarrn there, as well as the apple strudel, which is a must-try when in Vienna.

Demel

We were debating whether we should skip this one because we thought that it was going to be another tourist trap. It’s right in front of the cathedral, facing AIDA, too. But one evening we were strolling around, and it got cold, so we sat down right by the heaters. We had a blanket, too, so we cozied up with some Kaiserschmarrn, which is what they’re most famous for. Sisi also visited Demel. Not this one, the other one. That’s why you’ll see a line there from the moment they open. But if you want to try their specialty, only without the waiting and crowds, drop by the first location instead.

BackWerk

We discovered this bakery at random while we were waiting for our tattoo appointment. It was a bit away from the city center, but BackWerk has quite a few locations across town (there’s one close to the State Opera). This is the best option for the morning, before you head out, and the only thing you want is a warm cup of coffee and a good pastry. There’s a wide selection of baked goods. I picked up a falafel sandwich, and my sister tried a cinnamon pastry.
