Uncertainty is a thin veil covering my life. Or rather, it’s a blanket I’m comfortably tucked in. That’s it. I don’t believe much of life can ever be certain, because that would assume it is set.
People change all the time. Decisions change. Plans change. Opinions change. Nothing can stay forever without changing. What is certain is what you haven’t fully met yet.
“Life is a stranger in a crowd whose intentions are unclear”…
Hilary Leichter
For better or for worse, life is uncertain. It allows me to dream, as much as fear, what comes next. So there’s no way to approach it. It is a space in which life happens.
Maybe that’s that one certainty, the certainty of change. And that is the one I fully embrace. But other than that, uncertainty is all I have. This life I’ve lived was wrapped in uncertainty in every aspect. But then, maybe it wasn’t uncertainty, as much as it was unsafe. Maybe that created this crown around my life that made it look like everything in life is unstable, neverlasting, and undependable.
Who’s to say I’ll still be myself a year from now? Twenty years on, someone might be more my current self than I ever could have been.
