The Unicorn Hunters

Whenever I see an announcement for any new project by Katherine Arden, I’m immediately sold. I fell in love with her writing back when the Winternight trilogy came out. I was able to meet her when she visited my country as the trilogy was being translated into my language. I heard her speak about her education, finding her voice, how she started writing, and what inspired her. It was such a fascinating story to hear, and I was even more intrigued by her work.

There’s a certain magic to Arden’s writing that is uniquely her own, so recognizable and so engaging. I’m really intrigued and inspired by the way she chooses and crafts her stories. The Unicorn Hunters is no different. It is such a beautifully crafted tale with unexpected alleys with every turn of the page.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that held my attention from the first sentence as this one did. It also got me interested in a history topic I wasn’t familiar with. The fantasy aspect added such a nice twist to the overall story. I loved the depth of each character, their relationships, the stakes, the intrigue, the whimsy, and the whole setting.

If you’re looking for a story where devotion means so many things to various characters, the story is brimming with court intrigue, power display, and loyalty, where each branch of the story lures you deeper into the enchanted forest of good storytelling, and the waves of a magical literary ocean lead you far beyond the horizon of your imagination, then you’ll love The Unicorn Hunters. I wholeheartedly recommend this book.
