travel on a budget

I feel like it’s easy for me to organize a budget-friendly trip because I have the privilege of a European passport. So far, I’ve only ever traveled within Europe. I don’t have to worry about visas, long flights, and multiple changes of transport. I can hop on a plane and, in an hour, be in any major European city. I cannot paint that privilege as well-planned and budgeted trips.

Now, do I still travel on a budget? Yes! Get me the cheapest airline and whatever destination connected to from my city. But that’s another privilege.

Once I decide on the destination, I start making an itinerary. That’s because most places are really walkable, so best believe I won’t be using any transport if I can get there on foot. The bonus is that I’m really seeing the city and discovering things I didn’t even know were there.

Another thing is I don’t overpack, so I don’t have to check in extra bags. I get that you’d want to pack backup outfits for different occasions. But especially for short trips, you might not need that much stuff. My sister and I do that often. We leave the hotel early in the morning and stay out almost all day, so there’s no need to overpack with items you might not even reach for.

For food, you might want to try something different, or something the place is known for, but it doesn’t need to be a specific restaurant. If it’s traditional food, then you will find it in a lot of places – no need to pay for the name. Grocery stores are also a good go-to for snacks.

Maybe in the future, when I’m more well-traveled, I’ll share more useful tips, because I love nothing more than having fun researching destinations. I love traveling, but I also love making sure that the trip is smooth, convenient, affordable, and fun.
