Sometimes you’ll have some good cards dealt to you, and other times it’ll feel like you’re out of luck. For me, I was convinced for the longest time that it was cloudy when my lucky star was being assigned. Life was happening, and I didn’t seem to have a good grasp of it. So, those crumbs of good luck felt like magic, and then, forever after, I would try to recreate the same path to find that luck again. As you can imagine, it didn’t work.
Usually I’m a visual reader: I see pictures in my head as I’m reading, so I’m not very good at memorizing any quotes. Or lyrics, for that matter. But the one quote that stuck with me, and it serves as a firm reminder and a gentle comfort, is “Things never happen the same way twice.” Maybe it doesn’t actually go like that exactly. It’s from Narnia. However it goes, I repeat it like a mantra, keeping that reminder daily.
Sometimes it comforts me when things don’t go the way I expected. Sometimes it’s a relief. Always, it is the quote that guides my life.
I wrote that quote down in a postcard I sent to my sister while I was studying abroad. I was going through a rough patch, and I didn’t have it as easy that second time as the first time I went abroad. And actually, the beauty of it is that things didn’t happen the same way that time. They turned out to be even better. Infinite times better.
So, see? Things never happen the same way twice, my dear. Hold on, because they might actually surprise you and be so much better!
